Product Overview

The integral BOP stack is a unified well control assembly that integrates a ram blowout preventer, an annular blowout preventer, and a drilling spool into a single, forged unit. Unlike conventional BOP stacks that require multiple individual components to be bolted together on location, the integral design eliminates all inter-component connections, resulting in a safe, fast, and highly efficient blowout preventer system.

This integrated approach is particularly valuable for mechanical drilling rigs and workover rigs with limited installation space. By combining three critical well control devices into one compact assembly, the integral BOP stack reduces the overall height and footprint of the well control system, making it an ideal solution for rigs where space is at a premium. How the Integral BOP Stack Works

The integral BOP stack combines three essential well control components into a single unit:

1. Annular Blowout Preventer

Located at the top of the stack, the annular BOP uses a spherical or tapered rubber packing element to seal the annular space between the drill pipe and the wellbore. It can seal around various tools and pipe sizes—including kellys, drill pipe, drill collars, casing, coring tools, cables, and wire rope. Operational Applications – How the BOP Stack Protects the Well

1. When Pipe is in the Well

When drill pipe, tubing, or casing is present in the wellbore, the pipe rams or variable diameter rams can be closed to seal the annular space between the pipe and the casing or wellbore. The annular BOP can also seal around the pipe, providing an additional layer of well control.

2. When No Pipe is in the Well

When the wellbore is empty, the blind rams can be closed to completely seal the wellhead. This is typically done when the drill string has been pulled out for tripping or when the well is shut in for extended periods.

3. Emergency Shearing

In critical situations where the drill pipe cannot be retrieved, the shear rams can be activated to cut through the drill pipe and seal the wellbore. This is a last-resort measure to prevent a blowout.

4. Well Control Operations

After the well has been sealed, essential well control operations can be performed through the choke and kill manifold connected to the drilling spool and side outlets:

Mud circulation – Circulating drilling fluid to condition the mud and remove contaminants

Choking – Controlling wellbore pressure during kick circulation

Killing – Pumping heavy fluid to kill the well

Well washing – Cleaning the wellbore

5. Near-Balance Well Killing

When used together with the choke and kill manifold, the integral BOP stack can control well pressure effectively and achieve near-balance well killing operations. This approach minimizes formation damage while maintaining safe well control.
