Product Description

Oil tubing pipe is a critical component in oil and gas well completion. After drilling is finished and the well is cased, tubing is run inside the casing to serve as the conduit that transports crude oil and natural gas from the reservoir to the surface. Tubing must withstand the pressures generated during production, as well as tensile loads, corrosive fluids, and temperature extremes. Unlike casing — which stabilizes the wellbore — tubing is the actual artery through which hydrocarbons flow to surface facilities for processing.



Tubing Classification by Connection Type

API 5CT tubing is classified into three main connection types:

Description

NU

Non-upset tubing

The pipe ends are not thickened; threads are cut directly into the pipe body. Lower cost, suitable for less demanding applications.

EU

External upset tubing

The pipe ends are thickened (upset) externally before threading, providing greater joint strength. Most common for production tubing.

IJ

Integral joint tubing

The box threads are cut directly into the pipe body without a separate coupling. Provides maximum clearance for tight-hole applications.

How to Select the Right Tubing?

Selecting the right tubing involves matching well conditions to steel grade and connection type:

Depth & Pressure – Deeper wells and higher pressures require higher strength grades (P110, V150).

Corrosive Environment – H₂S (sour) requires C90, T95, or L80; CO₂ (sweet) requires 13Cr or 28Cr stainless grades.

Connection Integrity – Standard API threads (EUE, NUE) are economical; premium connections (VAM TOP, NEW VAM) offer superior gas sealing for HP/HT wells.
