Product Description
1. Product Overview
The Long Radius Swivel Joint is a high-performance pipeline fitting widely used in the oil and natural gas industry to change pipeline direction while providing flexible movement capability. Unlike short radius designs, the long radius swivel joint features a smooth, large-radius bore that minimizes fluid resistance and turbulence, reduces scouring and erosion on the turn wall, and offers superior flow characteristics-.
Our long radius swivel joints are manufactured from high-strength low-alloy steel with precision heat treatment to ensure uniform metallurgical structure and pressure-bearing capacity. The product features a three-raceway ball bearing design- with nitrided raceway surfaces and built-in steel balls, enabling smooth 360° rotation while maintaining a reliable seal under extreme pressures-. The design incorporates multiple sealing elements to prevent foreign matter ingress, and an automatic pressure-relief grease retention ring prevents pressure accumulation in the raceway cavity should the seal leak.
Both ends can be connected via hammer union or LP internal threads. All products are designed and manufactured in strict accordance with API Spec 16C and NACE MR0175, ensuring full interchangeability with major international brands such as FMC and SPM.
Key features at a glance:
Smooth large-radius bore minimizes fluid resistance and erosion

4. Long Radius vs Short Radius
|
Feature |
Long Radius Swivel Joint |
Short Radius Swivel Joint |
|
Bore Design |
Smooth, large-radius bore |
Smaller radius, tighter turn |
|
Fluid Resistance |
Minimal resistance, smooth flow |
Higher resistance, more turbulence |
|
Erosion Resistance |
Superior – better resistance to scouring and erosion- |
Lower erosion resistance |
|
Pressure Rating |
Up to 20,000 PSI |
3,000 – 10,000 PSI |
|
Ideal Application |
High-pressure, high-flow, erosive media- |
Space-constrained installations, lower pressure- |
Why choose long radius? Long radius swivel joints are preferred for high-pressure and high-flow applications where minimizing fluid shock, reducing erosion, and extending service life are critical-. Short radius swivel joints are typically used where installation space is limited or operating pressures are lower-.
5. Applications
Long radius swivel joints are essential components in high-pressure fluid handling systems across the oil and gas industry. Primary applications include:
Choke & Kill Manifolds – Critical components in well control systems for managing kick and kill operations-
Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking) – High-pressure fracturing fluid delivery lines where erosion resistance is paramount
Cementing Operations – Cement slurry lines on cementing trucks and service rigs
Well Testing – Test lines and temporary wellhead connections
Drilling Operations – Standpipe and mud circulation systems
Coiled Tubing Operations – High-pressure fluid connections
Acidizing – Acid treatment lines requiring corrosion-resistant materials
Offshore Platforms – Marine and subsea high-pressure applications
Media handled:
Drilling mud (water-based, oil-based)
Fracturing fluids (including proppant-laden slurry)
Cement slurry
Acid solutions
Crude oil and natural gas
Sour gas (H₂S-containing) – with NACE MR0175 compliant materials
